MOTS-C is a sixteen amino acid mitochondrial-derived peptide, sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR. Unusually, it is encoded not in nuclear DNA but by a short open reading frame inside the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene, on the separate loop of DNA inherited down the maternal line alone.

Available as a 10 mg or 20 mg vial of lyophilised MOTS-C, release specification ≥99% by HPLC, identity confirmed by mass spectrometry. Purified and filled in our Ontario lab and held at −20 °C until dispatch. Bacteriostatic water is included, sized to the vial you choose. The certificate for your batch is in the photos above.

We do not import MOTS-C finished. We buy the raw material and do the purification, verification, filling and freeze drying ourselves, in Ontario.

The compound

MOTS-C, in short.

Written into mitochondrial DNA

Not the chromosomes. It sits in the 12S rRNA gene on the separate loop of DNA that mitochondria carry, inherited down the maternal line alone.

Activates AMPK

An energy regulating enzyme. That improves glucose uptake, increases fat utilisation and enhances cellular stress resistance.

Sixteen amino acids

One of a small group called mitochondrial-derived peptides, first described in Cell Metabolism in 2015.

Made in Ontario, Canada

Freeze dried in a sealed glass vial, purified and filled in our own lab. Full numbers below.
